SEE EYE (Collaborative
Interventions)
Art event – Free to the public
Artist in Abbeyview Nicola Atkinson Does Fly has
collaborated with carpenter Nick Millar, artists Hanna Tuulikki,
Carol Lambie and Karen Vaughan, musician Stevie Jackson, cultural
broker Ben Spencer and writers Michael Wilson and Chris Hladowski
to produce a series of works that address the issues currently faced
by the people of Abbeyview looking to the past, present, and future.
Housed in Nick Millar’s magic creation of the Curiosity Cabinet, is the recreation of the SEE EYE EVENT in miniature. He has pulled together all the nine art works shown in the Allan Crescent flats in March 2007 into one portable experience. The furniture of the 1950’s and 80’s were found in charity shops in Dunfermline: a dresser, a bureau, a record player, a bar, a stool and a standard lamp crashing together at all angles to form the work. The SEE EYE artists have also selected 18 interesting and quirky books to be housed within the Curiosity Cabinet.
The Curiosity Cabinet is a dynamic, energetic piece that will grab
the attention and pull one towards it to discover its secrets. There
will be buttons to press, cupboards to open, drawers to pull and
lights to illuminate, all tempting you to interact and enjoy.
The
unveiling was in a vacant shop on 26 Bruce Street, Dunfermline on
Saturday August 25th at 3pm. With Stevie Jackson, from Belle and
Sebastian, performing live his two songs “Bird’s Eye
View” & “The Electric Box” that he composed
for Abbeyview.
