Campbell McAllister
Animator
Profile
Campbell McAllister is one of the new generation of British animators. His NESTA Fellowship is enabling him to develop his distinctive vision through incorporating cutting-edge computer techniques with traditional story-telling.
A modern-day fairy tale
Campbell wants to balance technological innovation in 3D animation with traditional story-telling, to give a deeper, more creative purpose than simply using technology to create special effects.
He says: “Much has been achieved in traditional animation
but computer animation is so expensive that people have tended to
focus only on computer games and special effects, because that’s
where the money is. I see myself as a bit of a pioneer to explore
this form of story-telling.”
Campbell’s short, How the Sea was Salt – adapted
from a story told to him and his twin brother by their father –
won a BAFTA and was selected for Best of the Fest at the Edinburgh
International Film Festival 2000.
