Taking over the whole gallery, Atkinson-Davidson explores the presentation of peoples private experience in the public domain by creating a many layered exhibition. A freely distributed leaflet asks for written memories to Locate your thoughts in Costa Mesa. The artist transcribes these recollections by hand, painting the thoughts onto small cottonseed sacks which are filled with wheat berries and hung across the gallery like washing. The exhibition grows over 5 months as more contributions are received and the space fills with the diverse, pregnant thoughts. Plaques on the wall record who has donated memories. The plan of a suburb is painted onto the glass of the gallery window, filled with quotations from city documents. Personal lives are placed in the context of the revealed city structure to create complex comment on everyday life. are captured and yet invested with great reverence.
