Connected, 2000

British Airways /Year of the Artist, Glasgow - Los Angeles

Medium :- Photographs and Printed Marterial.

Dimensions :- Various

"On the plane there exists an environment which is an intimate sanctuary, encouraging reflective questioning of life and our faith in the possibility that human beings can really fly. In this shared destiny of belief and invention we can lose a sense of whether this is real or whether we are still on the ground and the images are just a film." NAD

In order to realise the project Connected, Nicola Atkinson.Davidson is Artist in Residence on an outward and return British Airway's flight between Glasgow and Los Angeles. Nicola came to work in Glasgow in 1992 from Los Angeles. She follows the travel path back to Los Angeles; the place of star light dreams. During her return British Airways flight from Glasgow to Los Angeles, she will be able to further examining the relationship of states both real and imagined.

Connected provides the transitory community of the flight with an opportunity to engage on the production of a series of artwork exploring the departure from one state to another through a journey, both physical and metaphysical.

The work creates a dialogue between the artist and subject within the context of the shared experience of flight. Nine photographs are taken and published in the in-flight highlife magazine.

Sponsors :- This project is part of Scotland’s Year of the Artist Residency Programme with British Airways, Bulkhead, Arts 2000, The Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Fund and Millennium Festival.
