RADIO VM PART ONE
RADIO VM PART TWO
Radio VM is an audio portrait of the Victorian Market. Inspiration
was taken both from the history of the market and from the current
traders and the users of the market. The content for Radio VM has
many sources e.g. BW Cart are taking the traders musical tastes,
which ranges from traditional Scottish music to Led Zeppelin and
Shirley Bassey, and will broadcast them, along with requests, with
in the interior of the Market. This eclectic collection will replace
the usual CD that seems to have been playing everyday for as long
as the traders can remember!
The three Sound Gates, which will greet people as they enter and exit will be installed at each of the markets entranceways. This aspect of the project is about movement – the physical movement from one place to another, and the psychological movement or changes that can take place once you enter into a space or environment and hear sounds or music. Are memories triggered? Are personal impressions noted?
Radio VM is the second of the two events that BW Cart have created
- It reacts and reflects the way that both the public & traders
relate with the creative process and has aimed to work out side
of the everyday - stretching notions of interior / exterior. Reciprocal
access into how the market is run, who the traders are and creative
processes used by artists when undergoing a commission are vital
elements to this project and the two events give a platform to facilitate
this access. Collected opinions noted throughout this whole process
will naturally feed back into the permanent three entrance works
that will be created in spring 2009.
You will be able to experience this sound work at the Victorian
Market on Jan 23 & 24 between 11am - 4pm.
