Atkinson.Davidson explores the nature of architectural space and people's movement within it. A huge set of steps fills the gallery in front of one wall of vibrant colour and pattern. The spectator has to squeeze between the installation to reach the first tread. The audience, interacting with the work, is first, hidden and then passes through 4 stages of self; protected, shy, thoughtful, extrovert.
The Annuale was conceived in 1985 as a means to showcase young local artists and expose them to a noted curator from outside the Los Angeles area for the purpose of broadening the artist's prospective audiences and the curator's pool of artistic resources.
