Medium :- Video Monitor in a Bulkhead 24 Hr Window.
Dimensions :- w60cm h40cm.
The Road Works series in the 24HR WINDOW engaged the viewer with a staged, almost fake, reality. Time and space dissolve, comfort rituals and rational gives way to the imagination. Communication seemed to break down as the relationships between protagonists, the viewer or the environment were questioned. Mini viewing windows invited passers by to participate in the resolution of the dilemmas thrown up by each of the four artist's individual concerns.
Atkinson.Davidson presents the ritual of a journey.
A single screen, in the 24hr Window, shows a hooded figure pacing
back and forth, going through the motions of walking within the
confines of a white room that is the gallery space. The artist considers
walking has become unnecessary in the urban landscape, perhaps even
alienating and unreal. The duration of the journey however still
remains in the illusion of the imagination. This mirrors the activity
outside on the street, like walking in your sleep. The work is about
not being conscious, about the inside and the outside, public and
private works of art.
*The journey from the Southside of Glasgow to the city centre takes around 42 minutes, if one walks at a fast pace, green lights allowing, with no distraction or people to talk to.
