Bosnia/Herzegovina has over 3,700 identified species of flowering
plants. Its countryside is a place of great natural beauty.
Bosna I Hercegovina ima preko 3,700 identifikoanih
vrsta cvijeca I ima prelijepu prirodu.
Wildflowers do not grow in random in any sort of situation, but
they occur in nature in definite communities, one set preferring
the riverside, another the woodland, a third the moor or the pasture.
(1)
Neko cvijece
samo raste samo uz rijeke, drugo cvijece samo raste u sumi, trece
na pasnjacima I sl. (1)
Sometimes it seems that humans do not need such definite communities
in which to flower or to grow, but is this really the case? Unlike
wildflowers, we are fortunate in that we can pull up our roots and
move elsewhere to start a new life. However, it is one of the great
human challenges to be able to maintain one’s spirit whilst
undergoing upheaval and displacement. This is particularly true
for people who are witness to, or unwilling participants in, the
consequences of war and all its human ugliness. Following such turmoil,
people often turn to their core beliefs. These may be based on a
particular religious faith or in notions of art and culture, but
they can assist people to make sense of their confusion.
potrebe dok prolaze kroz process seoba.
Roots is the second of the series, entitled, Terrible Beauty, that
was inspired by my trip to Bosnia and subsequent conversations with
seven Bosnian families who have made the UK their home. These families
come from communities that are hundreds of kilometres apart including,
Prijedor, Lukavac, Sarajevo, Gorazde, Mostar and Trebinje. They
have now made their homes together and are living within a few square
miles of each other in the Birmingham areas of Bordesley, Small
Heath, Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath. It is their shared history
that brought them to the United Kingdom, but it is their faith,
friends and their surviving families (or new ones created by recent
marriages) that have enabled them to build a new life here.
njihovu zbunjenost. "Korijenje" je druga od ukupno tri
serije, nazvane "Strasna Ljepota" inspirisane mojim putovanjem
Britaniji napravile svoj novi dom.
Sarajeva, Gorazda, Mostar I Trebinje. Oni su sada sagradili svoje
nove domove zajedno i zive udaljeni svega nekoliko milja jedni od
drugih u Birmingham (Bordesley, Small Heath, Sparkbrook i Balsall
Heath).
Their difficulties should not be underestimated as cultural longing
can never be completely fulfilled. The bridges to their past have
been destroyed and a new life has to be made here.
Njihova zajednicka istorija ih je dovela u
Veliku Britaniju, a njihvo vjreovanje, prijatelji I prezivjele porodice
Following the exhibition, the 42 paintings will be gifted to the
families, although they can be loaned back to the Public, for public
display, thereby establishing an ongoing relationship.
