NADFLY presents on November 8th 2005
Notes on lecture coming soon...
‘The Utopia of Living Together’ by Yuneikys Villalonga, art curator from Havana, Cuba. Intro by Nicola Atkinson.Davidson.
NADFLY presents a lecture by Yuneikys Villalonga entitled, ‘The Utopia of Living Together’, in the Hunterian Art Gallery, on November 8th 2005 at 5:45pm. She will be discussing the new generation of Cuban artists and the state of Utopia in contemporary Cuban art.
During the course of her talk, she will discuss the Cuban art scene
and describe what is now referred to as the 90s phenomenon. She
will pay particular attention to recurrent themes, such as the influence
of living with an island mind-set on Cuban art, the uses of different
materials and the ascendancy of the U.S. dollar and the international
art market within Cuba.
This talk will be an exciting and rare insight to the current Cuban
art world. It will feature artworks from the new generation of artists
- Glenda Leon, Analia Amaya, Humberto Dias, Wilfredo Prieto, Fidel
Garcia, the ENEMA and DUPP groups and many more. These artists come
from a variety of backgrounds, in that some are recent graduates,
some are still studying at the Higher Institute of Arts and others
who are more established.
This is the part of a CULTURAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN GLASGOW AND CUBAN
ARTISTS. It will be followed by a live event entitled, ‘Flight/Vuelo’,
on April 22nd - 23rd 2006 at the GI2 space within Glasgow University.
This initiative has been organised by Nicola Atkinson. Davidson,
artist and curator of NADFLY, with the support of the British Council
in Cuba, the Glasgow City Council International Office, the Hunterian
Museum & Art Gallery, and Glasgow University.
There are 100 tickets available on a first come, first served basis.
